Woods Class: To Balance or Not To Balance…That is the Question
The Woods Class has been exploring city structure planning and construction, as well as expanding their math concepts including fractions. To tie in to these new fields of study, the Class has created an outdoor metal and concrete sculpture. The base is a pyramid-shaped steel frame. At its zenith is a horizontal hinged steel arm set off-center. At the end of each arm is a slotted metal basket. The baskets contain a series of concrete disks fashioned by the students and teachers. Each disk is imprinted with the hand of a member of the Woods class. The concrete disks can be arranged in different configurations to create different amounts of tilt on the arm, but there's only one way to restore its perfect balance.
